Barwon Health was one of the first health organization in Australia to introduce a ClosedLoop composting system. It recycles food waste from 3000 meals a day into composting material that is then donated to Magic Meadows, a self-sustainable farm. The farm in turn provides product to FoodSkill; a social enterprise that gives socially disadvantaged people access to affordable, sustainable and healthy food.
Barwon Health’s Food Services Central Production Unit (CPU) was announced winner of the 2015 Environment and Sustainability Award at the Australian Regional Development Conference Innovation Awards for the Closed Loop Organics Composting Project.
